Fixed appliances are held in place using bands or a fine metal mesh cemented to the teeth. Only the dentist can remove the appliance. This type of device therefore requires discipline from the patient in terms of oral hygiene. The patient must ensure that both the appliance and their mouth are thoroughly cleaned after each meal to prevent the development of new issues.
